The boom in lithium batteries since the 1990s<\/h2>

Since their introduction in the 1990s, lithium batteries, in particular lithium-ion<\/strong>, se sont impos\u00e9es comme la technologie de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence. Bas\u00e9es sur la circulation d\u2019ions lithium entre deux \u00e9lectrodes, elles sont devenues incontournables dans des secteurs strat\u00e9giques comme l\u2019automobile, l\u2019aviation, l\u2019\u00e9lectronique portable et les \u00e9nergies renouvelables.<\/h4>

Technology with remarkable performance<\/h2>

Lithium batteries stand out for their ability to store a lot of energy in a small volume. This energy density makes them the preferred choice for portable electronic devices, drones and, above all, electric vehicles.<\/h4>

- Extended service life<\/h3>

Capable of withstanding several hundred to thousands of charge and discharge cycles, they offer durability that reduces the need for frequent replacement.<\/h4>

Risks associated with lithium batteries<\/h2>

- Safety and the risk of thermal runaway<\/h3>

Despite their advantages, these batteries are still sensitive to overcharging, heat and shocks. In some cases, they can cause thermal runaway, leading to the risk of fire.<\/h4>

- Dependence on critical metals<\/h3>

Leur fabrication d\u00e9pend fortement du lithium, du cobalt et du nickel, dont l\u2019extraction a un significant environmental and social impact<\/strong>.<\/h4>

- The challenge of recycling lithium batteries<\/h2>

In 2022, less than 5% of lithium batteries worldwide were recycled (source: American Chemical Society). Current processes are complex and costly.
